Student Wins $205,000 in First Live Tournament
After sitting out a semester, a University of Alabama student has won $205,000 in his first ever live tournament, the Aussie Millions Tournament in Melbourne.
Friends and family greeted Shannon Shorr, 20, on his return to congratulate him on his 4th place win at the tournament playing against some of the best players in the world.
Despite playing online poker for the past two years this was Shorr’s first live tournament, commenting “You’ve got to sit there like a stone”.
With a starting pool of 480 players Shorr won his way to the final table where he contended with the eventual champion, and author of one of the current best selling poker books, Lee Nelson from New Zealand.
Shorr will be one of the featured players when the tournament airs on United States television.
Leaving in about a week Shorr is off to the Bahamas to play the Canadian Poker Championship Main Event.
