Online Poker Tips
By Keith Sharpton
There is many a professional poker player who is making money playing online poker, but for those who have just started playing online poker, it’s a good idea to keep a few tips in mind.
The biggest danger to avoid is going on cybertilt – that’s the reckless feeling of throwing caution to the wind because you’re on a losing streak. Losing control of your emotions leads to losing more money than you’d bargained for! Your opponents will be on the lookout for this happening, so don’t let them get this psychological edge over you – your losses will be their winnings…
Always keep your level of experience in mind. If you have a lot of money (and I mean a LOT of money) to throw away on gaining experience in online poker, well, that’s your call. My advice is to tread carefully, starting with free games (try Poker Plex’s free tables – www.pokerplex.com) and then going onto the lowest limit games to start with. The expert players are normally in the high limit games, although you should also watch out for experts trawling the lower limit games for easy prey!
Always remember that even though everyone may be chatting away in a friendly way, they are out to win your money, unless you’re playing at a free table, so don’t get too distracted. The other thing to keep in mind is that going from free games to real cash games isn’t as simple as it sounds, players often feel over-confident that they’ve learned all there is to learn about online poker, and may end up in a higher limit game than they are ready for.
One of the absolute best ways to improve your game to the next level is to take part in single-table tournaments, which encourage you to focus entirely on your game and enjoy the challenge.
