Online Gambling continues in US – but will it last?

The UIGEA law prohibiting US financial institutions from processing payments to online gambling sites hasn’t stopped residents of the US from visiting betting sites, since the law was signed by congress, according to cyber security vendor Scansafe Ltd, a web-blocking service to large businesses, who examine 6 billion Web requests a month.

They claim that attempted visits to online gambling websites by US customers were up 77 percent in the week between 23rd to 31st January.

The US government has until mid-July to develop the processing regulations for financial institutions, in relation to the UIGEA law. However, some online gambling sites have begun telling US customers that financial institutions are already distancing themselves, and are advising customers that they should cash out.

It is thought that the remaining companies that do still process cash outs from online gaming companies to their players in the US, will in the near future stop facilitating these transactions.
