Markus Lehmann Wins the 2007 WPT Spanish Championship
The final table at the Casino de Peralada featured players from Denmark, France, Korea, Austria, Sweden and Russia, making this final table at the Spanish Championship in Barcelona a truly international affair.
Coming into the final table, Gus “The Great Dane” Hansen had the lead with 962,000 chips with Vladimir “The Vampire” Poleschchuk at the back of the field with 176,000 chips.
None of those players managed to last long as some heated action left Markus Lehmann and Ludovic Lacay to battle it out for first place.
Heads up lasted a mere 22 hands. On the final hand Lehmann raised on the button only to be reraised by Lacay and Lehmann made the call. The flop showed 8, 5, 3 and Lacay moved in. Lehmann called with King, Eight and Lacay showed an Ace, Five. Both players missed the river which showed a three and a four which meant that Markus Lehmann was the new winner.
Lehmann took home $786,805 in prize money and an entry into the $25,000 WPT Championship event at the Bellagio. For his efforts Lacay won $418,505.
