Julian Thew Wins EPT Baden Classic
Britain’s Julian Thew, a father of two from Nottingham was the winner of the European Poker Tour event in Baden, Austria.
The field included 282 players from 32 countries who entered the €8,000 No Limit Texas Hold’em event creating a prize pool worth €2,143,200.
Poker Stars had another strong showing at this event. 42 players qualified online at Poker Stars, another 9 players from Team Poker Stars Pros showed up for the event along with some Poker Stars sponsored players.
Thierry van den Berg, a Poker Stars qualifier from Holland managed to finish in 5th place and take home €132,900 with Poker Stars sponsored player Vladimir Poleshchuk coming in 3rd place for €225,000.
Heads-up saw Julian Thew take on Denes Kalo of Hungary. On the final hand with all the chips in the middle pre-flop, Thew showed Ace, Eight to Kalo’s Ace, Five. The board missed both players giving Julian Thew the win.
Along with the first prize of €670,800, Julian also wins a seat at the EPT Grand Final set to take place in Monte Carlo in April.
The Merrion Casino Club will play host to the next EPT event in Dublin from the 30th of October until the 3rd of November.
