Rebuy Mayhem Vs Deep Stack Tournaments
Players who are looking to experience some long poker sessions tend to head towards two different kinds of tournaments.
In one corner we have Rebuy Tournaments that allow players the chance to purchase additional chips in predefined periods, if they bust out or if the fall below a certain chip count.
In the other corner we have Deep Stack Tournaments, a trend first started by Poker Stars, which gives players 5000 starting chips instead of the traditional 1500 chips and with the blind levels going up usually every 30 minutes instead of the typical 15 minutes.
If you prefer the Rebuy Tournaments we have highlighted below 3 tournaments that offer some big fixed prize pools.
PokerStars have a $45,000 Guaranteed Tournament running every day. The only drawback is the small buy-in that accompanies this tournament. With $10+$1, expect thousands of players to participate and you will be playing well into the night before you are done.
The nice people over at UltimateBet have a $19k Guaranteed Rebuy Tournament on a daily basis. The buy-in is on the high end at $30+$3 but that gives you the chance to play against a better play field and avoid all those “all-ins”. On top of that, the top 10 finishers from this tournament every Saturday will get free entry into the $200k Guaranteed Sunday Tournament.
One of the best valued tournaments takes place every evening at Blue Square Poker courtesy of the $30k Guaranteed Prize Tournament. With only $10+$1 rebuy, it’s full of “fish” so make sure you have your strategy in place. In case you didn’t know about it, Blue Square is probably the only site where you can rebuy only if you lose all your chips.
Deep Stack Tournaments on the other hand don’t offer very high guaranteed prize pools but the following beauties are worth checking out.
The €2,000 Deep Stack Daily at CelebPoker has a relatively high prize pool but the upside is that it only attracts around 200 players so this one is definitely one to look out for. Buy-in for this tournament is €20+€2.
PKR has a Deep Stack Tournament every Sunday at 15:00 GMT which won’t keep you up all night. With a guaranteed $1,500 prize pool, the $33 buy-in is not that bad. You will start this weekly tournament with 5000 chips and the blind levels will change every 20 minutes.
Finally the Ladbrokes High Stack has a $1,500 Guaranteed and a sensible start time at 18:45 GMT. You will start with 5000 chips but blind levels chance every 15 minutes so you are not up all night. The $50+$5 buy-in is the only drawback for this tournament.
So there you have it. Whether you prefer to start with the traditional 1500 chips and rebuy during the tournament or you prefer to start with a huge 5000 chips the decision is yours.
In my opinion, it all comes down to the Guaranteed Prize Pool, the number of participants, the buy-in and of course if you are willing to stay up all night. Then again if you are looking for Rebuy or Deep Stack Tournaments you probably don’t mind staying up all night.
